This handcrafted bamboo fan features The Great Wave off Kanagawa, the iconic print from Katsushika Hokusai’s Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, rendered using the chirimen dyeing technique.
The bold composition of crashing waves and distant Mount Fuji captures both movement and stillness in classic ukiyo-e style.
The front is finished in chirimen dye, with its distinctive texture and soft sheen enhancing the artwork’s expression. The reverse is lined with plain cotton, bringing out the natural beauty of the materials.
Each fan is carefully handmade using traditional Boshu Uchiwa techniques and supple medake bamboo.
